Suzanne Ciani and the Wave LIVE!
On March 14 and 15, 1997, Suzanne Ciani recorded her first ever live album at
the Herbst Theater in San Francisco with a newly formed instrumental
supergroup, The Wave. The album and the concert displayed Suzanne's talents
as a composer and musician like none in the past. In her hands and the hands
of a group of exuberant and talented jazz musicians, her music came alive in
a new and wonderful way.

| The Wave consists of seven terrific players, plus Suzanne. Here's the line up: | ||||||

| Michael Manring -- Bass Guitar. Michael is one of the finest free form bass
players in the world. His solo work on Windham Hill Jazz has brought the
highest critical acclaim afforded a bass player. Michael brings to the
instrument the capacity to play it solo (he plays as many as three basses at
once in his solo performances) while having the musical knowledge and
restraint to take a more traditional approach when called for. His sound is
the anchor for The Wave. Matt Eakle -- Flute. Best known for his work with the David Grisman Quintet, Matt is one of the finest jazz flute players anywhere. His incredible breath control brings to the flute something rarely associated with it -- power. Suzanne's flute lines, especially on the gorgeous anthem to her father, "Go Gently," have never sounded better than in Matt's sensitive yet strong interpretations. Matt will release his first solo record early next year. | ||||||
| Teja Bell -- Guitars. Teja is a true Samurai of technology and music. He is as well appreciated in the industry for his abilities as an engineer as for his excellent guitar work. He plays a host of guitars, electric sitar, keyboards, and percussion on the LIVE! album. He also brings to The Wave his famous humor, spirit, and control, in part derived from his mastery of the Aikido martial art. He has released a number of solo albums on Global Pacific and Music West. | ||||||
| Kalani -- Percussion. After touring with Yanni for several years, Kalani was pleased to get back to the small group feel. His outstanding rhythm and feel make him one of the most sought after percussion players in the country, and The Wave was lucky to catch him during a lull in his touring and speaking sessions for these performances. Kalani is presently writing a book on percussion, and he has two solo releases on Interworld Music. | ||||||

| We thought you would like to see a few shots of the band after the show, so here is a little bit of the after party, held in Pacific Heights at the home of a friend. Everyone had a great time doing the shows, but after a week of rehearsals and concerts, everyone was ready to let loose a little bit. | ||||||

| Suzanne Ciani and The Wave -- LIVE! was filmed by a tremendous production team from Pacific Video Resources. They are presently putting together the first version of what could be a number of television programs from all the material they shot. Keep your eyes on this spot and on your local TV Guide for televised performances of Suzanne Ciani and The Wave --LIVE! later this year! Suzanne Ciani and The Wave -- LIVE! was produced by Joe Anderson. The Chief Engineer who brought it all together was Peter Kelsey, and Craig Silvey was the Recording Engineer who captured everything in crystal clear Sony 48-track digital sound. The concert photographs were taken by Joe Greco, and the party photographs were taken by Jane Rosenberg. | ||||||
