Michael Manring is featured on bass and, along with Paul, was a solo recording artist on Windham Hill Jazz. Matt Eakle of the David Grisman Quintet plays flutes and brings his consumate classical sensitivity and jazz energy to the music.

SUZANNE CIANI'S TURNING NOMINATED FOR BEST NEW AGE ALBUM GRAMMY¨ SAN FRANCISCO -- January 5, 2000 -- TURNING, the most recent release from Bay Area composer and recording artist Suzanne Ciani, was nominated today for the Best New Age Album Grammy¨ of 1999 by the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences. It is Cianiâs fifth such nomination, having previously enjoyed nominations for her albums Pianissimo II (1997), Dream Suite (1995), Hotel Luna (1991) and Neverland (1988). Turning, which includes 12 new compositions, features Cianiâs signature piano playing wrapped in the instrumentation of The Wave ensemble. The title song is sung by Asian superstar Chyi-yu.

ãIâm very honored to be chosen by the Academy,ä said Ciani. ãFor independent record producers such as myself, achieving a nomination in todayâs highly competitive music environment is particularly gratifying. Much of this album grew out of my experiences touring with The Wave in Asia and Spain, and I am indebted to the brilliant musicanship of this group: Paul McCandless (oboe), Michael Manring (bass), Matt Eackle (flute), and Teja Bell (guitar).

Ciani began her independent label, Seventh Wave Productions, a little over five years ago with her husband, entertainment attorney Joe Anderson. She says, ãAfter a bout with breast cancer, I decided to leave New York, leave my lucrative sound design company, leave BMG, and go for my dream. It has worked out even better than I dreamed, and this nomination is a wonderful validation of that decision.ä

Anyone with a connection to the Internet and a television will be able to receive Suzanneâs acclaimed concert video from the www.clickmovie.com site as a demonstration of the power of the site and its ability in the near future to deliver tens of thousands of movies and other programs to Internet users the world over. Download time is dependent on modem and connection speed as well as on computer power. Individuals with DSL or other broadband connections will be able to view the video fairly quickly, whereas slower modems may require overnight.

Ciani has long been at the forefront of technology in music, so it is no surprise that her work is the first to be delivered in this fashion. Cianiâs fans have been able to see snippets of video and hear her music at her www.suzanneciani.com website for years, but this partnership with Clickmovie.com is the first opportunity for anyone to receive full screen full motion broadcast quality video via the Internet. ãI couldnât be more excited to be chosen for this historic broadcast, and I look forward to all the opportunities the Internet will bring to communicate my music in new and exciting ways.ä

In addition to the July Internet release of the Suzanne Ciani and The Wave:ÊLIVE! video, Cianiâs eleventh album, Turning, will be in stores September 14, 1999. It is an all new studio album of all new compositions composed and recorded in her new Northern California studio. Ciani is spending the summer in France and Italy, always a sure sign that new compositions are not long away.

SUZANNE CIANI TO RELEASE FIRST ALL NEW STUDIO ALBUM SINCE 1995 SAN FRANCISCO: August 1, 1999 -- On September 14, 1999, Suzanne Ciani will release her eleventh album on her own Seventh Wave label, via Allegro Corporation. The new album, entitled Turning, is Cianiâs first all-new studio album of all-new compositions since 1995âs Grammy¨ nominated Dream Suite. A four time Grammy¨ nominee, Ciani is coming off a particularly successful run, following up Dream Suite with a Grammy¨ nominated solo piano album in 1997, Pianissimo II, and 1998âs Suzanne Ciani and The Wave:ÊLIVE!, which was nominated for an AFIMÊãIndieä award. Turning was recorded in Cianiâs own Ocean Avenue Studio.

Turning marks the continuation of Cianiâs collaboration with members of her all-star band ãThe Wave,ä including such instrumental luminaries as Paul McCandless of Oregon and the Bela Fleck band, Matt Eakle of The David Grisman Quartet, bass legend Michael Manring, and guitarist Teja Bell. She is also joined by master violinist Steve Kindler and cellist Joe H bert. The album marks a departure from her traditional work as well, however, as the title track of the album is the first Ciani tune based around lyrics and vocals.

Last year while touring Asia, Ciani met Taiwanese pop superstar (and frequent L.A. resident)ÊChyi-Yu, whose ethereal vocal style suddenly clicked with Cianiâs romantic sense of melody. Within days Ciani had penned her first lyrics, a haunting reflection on the stages, twists, and turns of relationships. With Chyi-Yuâs expression of both pain and hopefulness, ãTurningä is undoubtedly Cianiâs most radio friendly track since ãThe Velocity of Love.ä Turning promises to be popular with long-time Ciani fans as well as those new to her music.

SUZANNE CIANI AND THE WAVE: LIVE! NOMINATED FOR "INDIE" AWARD San Francisco -- March 17, 1998
Following up on back-to-back Grammy nominations for Pianissimo II and Dream Suite, four time Grammy-nominated pianist Suzanne Ciani's newest release, SUZANNE CIANI AND THE WAVE: LIVE!, was recently nominated for an Association for Independent Music (AFIM, formerly NAIRD) "Indie" Award as the Best New Age Album of 1997. AFIM is the largest American trade organization of independently distributed record companies (those companies not distributed by one of the six "Majors": Sony, BMG, EMI, Polygram, MCA, and WEA). This is Ciani's first "Indie" nomination. No independently distributed New Age albums were nominated for Grammys this year, and last year, Ciani's Pianissimo II was the only independent nominee.

The Wave was specially formed by Ciani last year for purposes of recording and releasing her first ever live recording, and it constitutes a veritable supergroup of instrumental musicians. Featured players include Grammy- winning woodwind player Paul McCandless (a founding member of the seminal jazz group Oregon), Windham Hill solo artist Michael Manring on bass, Teja Bell on guitars, Kalani on percussion, Matt Eakle on flute, Jeremy Cohen on violin, and Doug Harman on cello. The concert was also filmed for television and has recently begun airing in select markets around the country on PBS.
